This lovely three-piece salt and pepper and lidded sugar/condiment set was produced in Japan for import sometime between 1891-1921. It features a hand-painted floral rose pattern with latticework and gold trim. It has gold painted shaker tops and lid knob similar to some Limoges pieces. These pieces are quite small measuring 2-1/2" tall x 1" wide (salt and pepper), and 2-3/4" tall x 1-3/4" wide (sugar/condiment). The lidded sugar/condiment has a slot for a tiny spoon which is missing. The salt shaker has a tiny cork in the bottom (did not attempt to remove it), while the pepper shaker is missing its cork. As for markings, the bases of the salt and pepper are marked with a blue "NIPPON", and the base of the sugar/condiment jar is marked with blue "Hand painted" "NIPPON" and rising sun. Note that pieces were marked in this way between 1891-1921, after which they were marked "Japan". Condition - This set is in good condition, with light wear on the gold painted shaker tops, and the gold trim around the top of the sugar/condiment jar. There is some light wear on the bases as could be expected. As previously mentioned, one of the corks is missing, and the sugar/condiment jar is also missing its tiny spoon.
